Omaheke San Trust - San People For San People

Omaheke San Trust

The Omaheke San Trust was established in 1999 at the request of local San community leaders and activists. The OST represents the San in the Omaheke Region and works with San communities and individuals across the whole Omaheke Region to help improve their livelihoods and protect their rights.

Who are the San of Omaheke?

The Omaheke Region is located in the east of Namibia and borders Botswana. The Region is situated in the north western parts of the huge Kalahari desert. About 8,000 San live in Omaheke. San communities in the region are amongst the poorest and most marginalised in the country..

Omaheke San Trust

The San craft skills, passed through generations are an integral part of their culture. All Bushmen crafts are derived from the hunter/gatherer culture, produced by using natural materials, locally available, like skins, sticks, roots and ostrich egg shells.
